Graco Baby Bouncer – Coping with Reflux Using a Graco Baby Bouncer

Adults are not the only ones to have to deal with reflux; in fact many babies suffer from reflux. The problem is that the first thing most parents want to do is rush off to the doctor and put their baby on medication to stop the problem. This is generally not the best course of action there are many other ways to deal with this problem including the use of a Graco baby bouncer.

Having reflux or "spitting-up" after being fed is relatively common in infants and can be very upsetting to parents especially if this is their first baby. Resisting the urge to ask your doctor for the latest reflux medication can be hard. Often this problem can be alleviated with a simple switch in the position in which your child is placed both while they are feeding and for a period of time after they have finished eating.

You can use your Graco baby bouncer to keep your baby sitting upright while he is eating and for at least half an hour afterwards. This allows gravity to do its work and help keep his food firmly down in his tummy. Also by having them sit upright in a bouncer they can remain still which will also help with keeping their food down. Adjust the times as needed since formula is harder to digest than breast milk, if you use formula you need to let your child stay seated for a longer period of time.

If you are going to use a baby bouncer make sure that you use one that does not let your baby slouch over to one side as this can put added pressure on his tummy which will increase the risk of a reflux episode. The ideal position is slightly reclined but as close to upright as possible depending on the age of your child.

Doctors recommend that when it is time for your baby to sleep, the best way to help reduce the risk of a reflux episode is to prop his head up at angle that is at least 30degrees from horizontal. This can be done in his crib by placing blocks under one end of the mattress; however you can achieve the same results using the multiple positions that a Graco baby bouncer can be adjusted to.

Along with the suggestion of propping your baby’s head to the right angle all doctors say that your baby should always be allowed to sleep on his back. If you allow your baby to eat in his baby bouncer you can then gently lay him back to the right angle for sleeping, this will have a dramatic effect on the number of episodes of reflux that he will experience over the long run.

Not only will using Graco baby bouncer help reduce the number of incidences of reflux that your baby has but it can allow you to have a little bit of a break as your baby happily snoozes away. Of course now might be a very good time for mum to take a bit of a break.
